Freedom, Fireworks, and Potato Salad

My friend Debbie, a most excellent social studies teacher and all around phenome, sent me this. Did Adams have foresight or what???

"John Adams, one of the signers of the Declaration and later second President, wrote to his wife, "I believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival... it ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other..."

And those powerful, powerful words..."We hold these truths to be self evident; that all men are created equal." I get chills every time I read or hear them.

Debbie also reminded me that Adams and Jefferson died on the same day, 50 years to the day of their signing the Declaration of Independence. Amazing!

Happy Fourth to All!!"

That is an amazing quotation, isn't it?

And I love the symbolic coincidence of them both dying on that day.

Hmmm. Maybe we should watch 1776 tonight.

I was not aware of that, interesting tidbit Kathy!

I made an awesome recipe for potatoe salad today, from Marta Stewart. I'm going to a BBQ tomorrow and wanted to bring something. I should have taken pictures of me making it.

Happy 4th to you too!
We are certainly having beautiful weather. I'm sitting out on the deck now with my laptop with my clothes drying in the breeze.

I've always been a bit suspicious about them both dying on the 4th. Wasn't it pretty common to give people a little nudge near the end back then? I know Britan did it with a george or two.
