And this is where they sleep...or It didn't look this big in the store

There is something innately sexy and at the same time comforting about a big bed. Who of our generation has not heard that classic song "Lay lady, lay; lay across my big brass bed?" We probably don't have to search long for Dylan's intentions. But, perhaps in spite of his message and yet because of that song, I had always thought to have a big brass bed of our own.

Several years ago, after school let out, I drove down to Suwanee, Georgia, to visit my brother and his family. Richard balked at my going alone and insisted our middle child come with me. I had really wanted to just 'go off' on my own -- you know, ride off into the sunset, but he was adamant. She proved very good company, however, and instead of my being just Thelma, we did a Thelma and Louise-type thing sans the violence and picking up men, of course. We spent a few days in Georgia and then headed home.

North Carolina is famous for its number of quality furniture manufacturers. If one shops around and finds furniture, even pieces on sale, you can realize a substantial savings -- even with the shipping charges -- by ordering through one of the many NC furniture retailers. Some stores don't even charge for shipping!

I had been shopping for a bed for a while and had a pretty good idea of what we wanted and what I didn't want. On the way through North Carolina, I thought I'd stop at Priba Furniture in Greensboro where they had 50,000 square feet of gorgeous pieces. Within five minutes, across a crowded room, I spotted our bed. Not six weeks later, they delivered it. Made by Woolrich (who manufactured uniforms for the Confederacy (ain't that a kick?)) in the US, it's solid oak. Not brass, but close enough.

That's a really nice bed. I've never had a headboard or anything at the foot of the bed either. In fact, for years I had just a foundation and mattress with not frame (no squeaky! haha). And it was a king sized bed. I miss that king sized bed. I have a queen size now and it's okay, but a HUGE king sized bed is sooo awesome.

I've seen that bed in person and can attest to it's largeness. Fit for a king and queen. I love having lots of room in a bed. My queen size is just right for one :)

Big, sunstantial furniture just feels more comfy to me. Your beds got what my Mom would call "simple, classical lines"

Very nice.

scoot over.

It's beautiful.

You'd be appalled by the cheesy, pressed board headboard we have.

I love the headboard and footboard. Whenever we book a hotel room, I always request a Kings size for hubby and I.
I bought my armoire from a Co. in N.C. It's a Hooker (how do you like that name?)and there were no shipping fees. Way to go.

Nice bed. More room for the dogs.

Kathy google the "Sunshine Island Inn" It's only 8 units, very private and quiet. I have stayed there for 15 years off and on. (sometimes I just run over for the day to visit) I love it. It has changed owners a few times and each time it gets better.
It's like having your own private pool. It has always been very clean.
Beach time.

That IS a nice bed.
We are probably one of the few people who have a full size bed, and it's probably the only bed with a fence section for a headboard. :-)

My first bed had a brass headboard, which I loved. Then it got tarnished and I hated polishing it. And I do mean hated it. I like that bed you show...and you ARE RIGHT, NC is known for good furniture!

Oh I love the bed. We have a sleigh bed, and I am not real happy with the quility of the wood on it. Very soft and with in a few months of buying it we moved and it is scratched up really bad. It is the worst mistake in furniture I have made. Hopefully in a couple of years we can replace it. I've always head NC furniture is good too, and have been in some of the outlet stores down there but not furniture stores. I'm not sure if your getting one made by a company that uniformed our southern boys was a good idea...they lost the war (ha ha..you know I had to throw that in since I am such a big civil war buff)
Seriously I think your room looks great!

I like your bed. I'm in desparate need of a new bed, but I don't have room for one that large.
