The only activity I have with my gardens these days is planning, as they remain under snow. I have been keeping myself busy with reading. Just completed Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman (her first novel). What a great read! I loved living in this book. Now I'm reading Sue Grafton's U is for Undertow; a bit different from her others, it is still expertly written and very intriguing.
I've also been doing some "Googling" (Googling isn't research according to one of Richard Russo's professorial characters in That Old Cape Magic) so I'm careful not to use that term. I looked up 'raptors' which fascinate me, trying to identify a hawk-like bird that had perched outside my office window. What I saw was actually a peregrine falcon which to me is very exciting. I've also spotted blue birds quite a lot lately. This surprises me as I thought these beautiful little birds flew South, but evidently not. I have a brand new blue bird house to put outside this spring. Maybe I can entice a family to settle here.
Some of you might have noticed the Translator widget at the left top of my blog. I've been doing a lot of playing with that of late. It's really fun to just click on it and then read my own writing in a variety of languages. I wonder how well the idioms of blog writing translate, but it's still quite amusing to see one's own words in the cadences of other languages.

I was supposed to read a book a month this year. To date I have only started one and so I'm behind. When I do finish it, I will look up Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt. How lucky for you to have a peregrine visiting!
I'm not sure how good Google Translate really is. I was trying to use it to tweet in French while the US was playing France in curling the other day. My French Canadian friend couldn't understand what I was saying half the time. Guess I probably didn't attract any French hotties either. LOL ;-)

One of the joys of retirement is having enough time on your hands to read and explore new subjects. I don't know why, but I haven't been reading lately. I've tried to start several books, but couldn't get interested in them. I'll make up for this break when I start reading again.

I love to bird watch. I identified one today that I've been trying to peg down for 6 years. I've always heard the distinctive whistling but never been able to see the bird itself because it sits so high up in the trees. This morning he was in MY back yard though, and he sat in one place long enough for me to get the binoculars out and figure out that he's a Varied Thrush. I'm so excited that I finally figured that out! Talk about having too much time on your hands! ;)
I've been trying to get Sue Grafton's book, U is for Undertow for ages but it seems totally unobtainable in the UK. I'm beginning to wonder if it is thought to have terrorist connections! ;) How is it different from the others? I'm intrigued!
I've read all of Sue Grafton's books and look forward to Undertow. I'm going right now and putting my name on the list at the library.
I love all kinds of birds, as do you. There's something so exciting about seeing the seldom-seen ones. I should try a bluebird house. I have the perfect spot.
