Washington, DC is a very exciting place to live. Embedded in history, it's also beautiful. While still a good month away from the Cherry Blossom Festival, DC, still teams with activity. Last night we visited the Embassy of Finland which received Gold
LEED® certification due to the efforts of my
husband and daughter's firm. Finland is the first embassy in the United States to be awarded LEED® certification. We arrived an hour earlier than the guests to meet the ambassador and to share a toast to all our efforts. Finland proudly displayed this banner:
Across the street from the Embassy of Finland is the Naval Observatory and the home of the Vice President of the United States. On the other side of the cross walk, one can just about make out the National Digital Time.
Two neighbors of the Finnish Embassy are the Embassy of the Holy See (Vatican) and the Embassy of Norway.
The Ambassador of Finland, Pekka and Mrs. Lintu, welcome their guests. There was entertainment as well as a beautiful buffet. I just wish you all could have been with us!

Love the photos - it looks like you're in Europe.
How exciting for your family - sounds like it was a really nice evening. I love to get dressed up and do things like that - I wish I could have gone too!
And your hair? Was it beautiful?
Congratulations to your firm for making the LEED certification a reality. Did you have fun? How was the food?
That's very cool!
I bet they like their new neighbor at the Naval Observatory way more the angry old man who lived there before. ;-)
Congratulations to your husband's and daughter's firm; that is fantastic!
BTW - I have an uncle who married a woman from Finland. She was the first Finnish person I ever met.
What an interesting life you lead! Thank you for letting us be part of it and giving us a peek by way of your great photos. My husband has been to Washington a few times and one day we shall go together on a strictly "pleasure trip." So much to take in that we'd need more than a few days for sure. Congratulations to your husband and daughter. They have a great website as well. Personally, I think all newly constructed buildings should be LEED certified on at least one level.
FANTASTIC!! Congratulations to all.
An evening to remember! Sounds like a wonderful time was had by all!
That looks a wonderful occasion, Kathy! And congratulations to your husband's firm. What a beautiful Embassy - but Finnish furniture and interior decorating is famous. Did you have lovely Finnish food??
Sounds like a great time.
Congratulations to your husband and daughter!!
