Lesson Learned

Today I stayed with our grand daughter in her new house while her mother went to a meeting.  We vacuumed a little, unpacked some more toys,  sat and watched a little of 'Elmo's World' on Sesame Street.  She asked for a "bottle, please".  (I'm aware that many are opposed to two-year olds having a bottle; suffice to say we're not -- it gives them some autonomy and cuts down on messes.  If she's walking down the aisle on her wedding day, sucking on a bottle of milk, the 'experts' can all say they told me so.)
I fixed the bottle for her, carried it and her into the living room, and asked, "Would you like to sit on this chair while you drink your milk?"  She looked at me and simply said, "No, I sit with Kathy."  So there we sat.  She with her milk, and I, heart bursting and holding on to her, knowing how ephemeral time is.

What a tender moment. I had a two year old with a bottle and one day she threw it aside on her own and that was the end of that. People rush children too much these days.

Isn't it a grandmother's job to spoil a child?

No need to apologize. I think it's very cool that she wants to sit with you and drink her milk.

Enjoy while you can Kathy. Enjoy while you can.

What a wonderful way to spend a day. Such a sweet moment. Nothing beats a 2 year old!!

It sounds as if you had a perfect day with your granddaughter. Enjoy each and every opportunity you get to be with her -- she'll stop being two entirely too soon!

Uh, I mean, that's really touching. :-)

And then she pooped. Which made her throw the bottle which burst all over everything. And she screamed at the top of her lungs and cried for half an hour until you suddenly distracted her with your car keys. heheh ;-)~

Kathy, that's lovely. Make the most of it - little girls seem to enjoy "sitting with Granny" more than ittle boys. My two grandsons when little would hug me, and then rush about being fire engines or whatever!!

Just make the most of a 2 year old - sadly they grow up so very fast.

How sweet! I think Grandmas are very special people. Some of my best memories are times I spent with my Grandmothers.

What a great way to spend the day.
Who cares what age they give up the bottle. Like you said just as long as it's gone by her wedding. If it gives them comfort. Let it be.
As for messes my kids all remind me I wouldn't let them play with play dough in the house. What a disaster that was to clean up.

Life's little moments that we treasure. Nice post Kathy. Hope the move into their new house went well and that everyone is settling in. You must miss them being at your home...sometimes! LOL
