A Conundrum or True Colors Shining Through

Knee deep in my summer reading, I've just finished a particularly moving, poignant book:  Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah.  Two stories told in tandem, this piece is riveting and beautifully written.  Never having read anything by Hannah, I'll be checking out (literally and figuratively) her other works.

I'm all about color in the garden and plan things purposefully to suit my tastes of color combinations.  However, the whimsy and disposition of Mother Nature often thwarts even the simplest of plans.  In evidence this season are my lilies.

I had moved established, apricot-colored lilies to the front yard as I thought they'd be a good foil for the light lavender.  Well, the light lavender came up burgundy, and the apricot came up orange!  They're still beautiful, though.

                                           Light lavender???

                                          This isn't Apricot!!

Who planted red??? Especially coming out of the apricot plant???

And Rosie Returns was Burgundy last year!!!!

You are not alone. I've had daylilies change when moved from one place to another. The color seems to be particularly influenced by soil condition and composition. I try to forget about the changes and enjoy the beauty of the blossoms as they appear.

I agree with George. Hope you are having a nice relaxing weekend.

Yes, things like that happen to me!

Interesting what George said about soil and day lilies - I didn't know that! I shall wait to see what colour the ones I moved last year turn out! They are only in bud so far.

Oh my those ARE lovely Kath. I wish I had more time/patience to grow flowers here in the desert, but to do so I'd need all sorts of do dahs. I'll just enjoy yours

Your flower mix up made me smile. They are still so beautiful though. I would love lilies in my garden next spring.

There are no bad color combinations in flowers.

That happens here at times. Ralp is always rearranging, and color change does happen with ph balance of soil and suspect possible link to proximity of certain other plants.

I think day Lillie's are the best. We have them at hour house and I encourage others to use them. The only down side I see to them is when they die out they do look flat and unsightly.....but to me it's worth it because they bloom multiple times a year and they really are beautiful.
