Home From the Seas And Still Rockin'

Our ship docked in Baltimore Harbor at 7:00 AM on Saturday.  Our son Mike picked us up and we were home doing laundry by 8:30.
Our ship:  Enchantment of the Seas docked in Portland, Maine

We had a lovely time -- in spite of suffering through about 12 hours of gale force winds and 15 to 20' seas on the way back.  I have NEVER seen angrier seas or a ship  that size pitch and roll.  At one point, sitting at a table on the 9th level, overlooking the bow of the ship, we watched the ship hit the swells and the waves wash OVER us!

We had gone up to eat breakfast, but quickly realized even walking at that point was out of the question.  That and the fact that husband had turned a bit green.  I put a scopolomine patch on his neck and he went back downstairs to our room.  I followed about 30 minutes later -- after I finished my eggs.   What?  I was hungry!

I waited thinking conditions would improve; if anything, they worsened.  I thought at one point I was going to have to crawl to the stairs (we were only one floor down) where at least there were rails to grab on to, but managed by walking a few feet and then holding onto a wall or table (I'd introduce myself and chat for a few minutes -- everyone was so nice) as carts, condiments, and plates flew by.)  There was nothing left to do except to go back to our cabin, read, and hold onto the mattress.  At any rate, we got through the system by about 6:00 PM on Friday night.

The only residue of the rough sailing is the fact that I'm still weaving back and forth -- haven't gotten my land legs back, yet.

I'm actively reading blogs and should be caught up by Wednesday.  We had a wonderful time and I'll post a few photos this week.  It's good, though, as always, to be home.

Just what I suspected of a cruise. I'm keeping my feet on land. I do well to walk on flat ground let alone on water. Nope, not for me. You can't sell me on water. I'm delighted though that you had a good time.

Hi Kathy, Glad you had a great cruise, but I'm sorry about the horribly high waves and rough seas.... Gosh--that had to have been hard!!!! I don't get sea-sick---but that may have done it for me!!!! ha

Can't wait to see your pictures... BUT-I'm glad you are home.
Hugs,
Betsy

That storm dumped a lot of rain in its path and caused flooding, as I heard on the news. Sounds like a rockin' rollin' ride.

I'm glad you had a good time in spite of that storm. I think I'll pass up the opportunity to have that type of experience on a cruise!!

Welcome home....and what an adventure. Lovely ship, and yes, I've never rocked and rolled in something that big. You guys are something else again,. :)

You hit it on the seas, we hit it in the air. You know how much I love (NOT) flying, but I think I'd still rather have been on that plane than on your ship! For one thing, we got through it quicker!

Welcome home! I see that you've been commenting your way through my posts. We also had some wonderful gale-force winds on a cruise to Alaska a few years ago...seas so rough we couldn't even dance, and that's rough!

I've been on a few boats in my time but nothing that scary. My Mother related a story about going to Norway by boat before I was born. The food was complimentary in one direction.... she chose the return journey and you've guessed it, there was a storm and the free food was uneaten.

Oh, I had to laugh at your description of your gale force winds! Join the Club. I too clutched onto chairs and tables and chatted to the occupants, then moved on a couple of tables. And handrails were one's best friend! Ours had little sick bags dotted along each rail in the ship!

But glad you enjoyed it. Looks a lovely ship and not too big, or is that just the angle you've taken it at??

With both husbands turning greenish (or very green in the case of Mr.G) hows about you and me going on a cruise somewhere??? ;)
