A New Venue or Bells and Whistles, Oh My!

I had mentioned to the husband that on occasion my monitor had begun staring back at me with its very blue, kiss of death face.  It happened enough that I frantically began backing everything up (which I should have been doing anyway) including all my pictures.

Well wouldn't you know that Santa got wind of this and brought me a huge-screen HP.  So here I sit composing my first blog on the new computer.  I have no idea how this works, or rather how to take advantage of all its bells and whistles or how to get in touch with someone to learn its intricacies, but somehow I'll muddle through.

My old computer is still functioning and I will not purge it until I'm confident that I've copied the entire hard-drive and any software to this one.  Scary, isn't it?  Change, that is.  Maybe pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones is a good thing, no a necessity.  I had a principal in one of the middle schools where I taught who said the measure of excellent education is pushing students to that point where they are no longer comfortable.  (He is also the only principal I've ever had who quoted Proust during faculty meetings).   I think he had something there...

It is both exciting and scary to sit in front of a new computer. I have a new laptop and absolutely love it. It does take time though to get set up on a new computer.

Change doesn't usually bother me. Unless I'm pretty sure it's a change for the worse. But, normally I'm excited for change and enjoy it.

I find change hard. I got a Nook for Christmas and I haven't even looked at how to work it yet. I am impatient with myself so I would much rather wait for my son to come and show me how to work it. I guess that is called lazy and dependent! I may see if I can figure out a few things before he comes.

Enjoy your new computer! Sounds like it will be fun.

How generous of Santa to send you a new HP. Gotta love that guy!

Find the tele. # of the service help, and you will be fine. They're unusally good for answering the questions like "how do I turn this thing on?" :)

You will love your new 'puter, Kathy.... Just experiment and you will learn... It took me a long time to learn that I couldn't really 'hurt' my computer... If you make a mistake while learning, you can back out and start over... The only problem you have is that you didn't switch to a Mac.... ha ha ha

My only advice: be sure you have some good back-ups for all of your stuff.... We have some external drives for ours --and we are even thinking of getting some online backups... Both George and I have TONS of photos which we would hate to lose as you can imagine.

ENJOY your computer.... You'll LOVE it.
Hugs,
Betsy

I'm not much for change, unless it's slow. Or electronic. New electronics make me all happy inside. Enjoy your new computer. I'd love a new one myself :) One day...

I've kept my fingers crossed every time I've migrated to new computer, but fortunately things have worked well each time. I'm sure you will soon master your new computer. By the way, congratulations on getting your new toy.

I'm holding out for a Mac...right now I'm suffering with Windows Vista, just the worst product E V E R! I've had lots of problems with it, and I didn't want to upgrade to 7 because I want the Mac anyway. Just waiting until all the pennies are saved!

My computer has been giving me a black screen, while it continues to run. I have to unplug everything and plug it back in several times before it reboots. So, I've been frantically trying to back up files and pictures before it dies completely. What model HP did you get? I've been looking online trying to decide which model I want.

I know you will love your new computer. Change is good - it keeps life interesting and keeps our brains working.
