Never in my younger life would I have surmised I'd ever be 62, a grand mother, and celebrating 42 years of marriage. It just never occurred to me. But I'm not shocked, as one would think I should be, when I look in the mirror. Why? Because the mind's eye is a big, fat liar. I still think of myself as this young woman, about to walk down the aisle with her dad -- 42 years ago today. Yes, I'm delusional...
Here we are (husband and I; my sweet and funny dad died in 1998) 41 years later in Venice, Italy.

It occurs to me that we are 40 years older than my dad was in the above photo. He was 46 when we married. God, that's depressing!! Richard had a full head of black hair when we married, and I wore a size 10. I think my veil may still fit.
So how did we celebrate today? An exchange of carefully picked cards with lovely and fitting sentiments and a scrumptious lunch at The Thames Street Oyster House in the Fels Point section of Baltimore.
Fells Point...
And yes, this is REALLY the name of this historical hotel...
Makes me laugh every time.

Congratulations you two! Tom and I have been married for 43 years this past Dec 26. Best wishes for many, many more celebrations!
Thanks for the comments on my blog! I think there is a small math error in your post above because it would make you 86. I love Fels Point and have a post somewhere in my history about walking and eating there. Hubby took me there on our anniversary as well a few years ago.
Happy Anniversary. What were they thinking when they named that inn? I guess there was no way around it, but still . . .
Happy Anniversary you teenagers...you! And I sincerely mean that. You have a very youthful spirit. What do they say about age? It does not matter unless you are wine or cheese. : )
I like the photos of where you spent your afternoon; it is very charming. And the name of the Inn makes me laugh too.
It is a little shocking to think that somehow we got old, isn't it. I'm a few years older than you and have been married a few years longer, but after a while it's all relative. It will hit home in 2014 when we celebrate
45 years and then I turn 70!
Congratulations on your anniversary.
You look just as happy in the 'after' picture! THAT is an achievement! Congrats!
Happy anniversary, Kathy. It shocks me to think we've been married over 40 years too. This year we didn't celebrate our anniversary at all. We were going to and then let it slip away when something interrupted our plans. I love the same of that inn also. Too funny!
happy anniversary.....and you look marvelous
Happy Anniversary, and congratulations! You were a very beautiful bride! I have been married for 53 years, and am way past the age when I thought it would be the decent thing to do and depart this age!! (not deliberately, I hasten to add, just thought 65 was really ancient and time for anyone to go!!) And I never, ever thought I'd still be with him 53 years later. At one point, 8 years would have been enough, and several times later on, but I soldiered through and here I am! We both reach a big age anniversary (no, I am not telling you what it is!) this year, but I don't know what we will do to celebrate.
And I love your new header, Kathy. :)
Congratulations. You two are just as charming now. :)
