Arming the Unstable

Three heinous incidents in about a week: the murder of a pastor during services, the killing of a family in Miami, and the rampage in Alabama. Anyone else appalled by this senseless violence? Or have we become hardened to this sort of occurrence because of the frequency with which it happens? I hope not. This violence is and remains contradictory to life, to prosperity, and well-being.

Do you think the founders of our country had this is mind when they allowed for "the right to bear arms" for the forming of a militia? Now before we all get our undies in a knot, I'm not proselytizing for the removal of all guns (though in my heart I know this may not be such a bad idea), but why do we make it so easy for people like these men -- obviously ill -- to get guns, use them, and wreak havoc? To chisel away at the underpinnings of our peace, our society, our future? There has to be a better way...

Kathy,
I so agree with you. I have never understood why people think they have to be armed. The more guns that are out there, the more people who are going to get shot. There are too many guns and they are too available.

Sorry I'm so late to this. My novel's gotten in the way of blogging. (Better that than the other way around, I guess.)

I think this country is crazed on the subject of guns. I wish we could get rid of all of them.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say ...when guns are made illegal, only criminals will have guns. The sad state of affairs on this topic is that if someone wants a gun to do a crime, they'll get one whether or not they are legal. I don't think it's good people who have guns who perpetrate these heinous crimes. (Can you tell I come from a hunting family?? LOL)

It all boils down to liberalism, Kathy. It makes it easier for nut jobs to get guns while folks like you and I don't have a chance. I don't watch the news or read the papers anymore so I didn't even know about these incidents until I read it here.

and those are just the ones you read about in the paper or see on TV, probably !% of what goes on.

The NRA gives each Congressman many $$$.

Not having guns wouldn't stop the violence. It would only make the deaths much less frequent.

It becomes more difficult to apologize when there is blood all over the street. (Oops, sorry).
