Getting Older Sucks

I'm sitting here with my new glasses -- progressive lenses with both distance and reading correction.  This is the first time I've ever needed correction for distance.  While I can still see the writing on the sides of planes flying overhead, I have trouble reading the print on the TV.  And so it begins....  I've been warned in trying to get used to them that I shouldn't take them off and I should not look down while walking down steps.  Short of getting a white stick and a dog, I'm doing well...

The cheeses (and there were four, not three as I erroneously reported) that I had at Sweet Melissa's Cafe in Sanibel (where Marge set fire to her dessert menu) were:  Ubriaco (an Italian cow cheese); Petite Vaccerinus (a Swiss cow cheese that was like an over-ripe brie); Boucheron (a French goat cheese); and La Peral (a Spanish sheep cheese).  I'm going to try to replicate the raisin baguette served with the cheeses.  I think it might have been made with an Earl Grey tea.  I'll let you all know how this turns out.

Speaking of Earl Grey, I've  been drinking a lot of hot tea lately. (It's bitter cold; this shouldn't be shocking). Two I had while we were in Florida are not sold ANYWHERE around here.  Wouldn't you know that I'd find them on Amazon.com?   Who'd have thought?   One is a decaffeinated black ceylon and the other is an African nectar.  Both are yum and I've already ordered both.

I remember how hard it was getting used to my progressive glasses. I hated them but forced myself to wear them and finally I adjusted. It took a while as I recall.

Good luck with your glasses. I usually take off my glasses for any close work, but can't see a thing in the distance.

I've gone back to drinking hot tea during this cold weather. Glad you found the two you were looking for.

I can't remember ever NOT needing corrective lenses. Although my eye doc just told me it was about time for me to get some reading glasses to use with my contacts. Not yet, I told her!

Kathy, I've had what you call progressive lenses and we call varifocals, for years now. They took me a while to get used to them, but now are just fine.

Take it easy, but don't take them off! You will soon adapt, and then find you can't imagine ebing without them!

Good luck!

I never did get used to my progressive lenses. Found them to difficult when I was working. Always adjusting my line of vision between looking at my computer screen and at paperwork on my desk. Went back to two pairs of glasses, one for reading and one for distance which I basically only wear when night driving. My husband has laser eye surgery almost 10 years ago now and is so happy that he did. Me...I'm too chicken for that! As for getting older...thank God wrinkles don't hurt!

I remember when I was about to get my first pair of progressives. The doctor said to me very curtly, 'If you think you won't be able to get used to them, don't even try because you won't'. Geez. I guess a lot of people go into this thinking it won't work, and then return them. I emphatically said, 'I don't think that at all,' and I had no problems. I know a lot of people do. Hope I won't be seeing you with a dog and stick.

I'm just with the reading glasses so far. My arm just wasn't long enough anymore! :-)

Kathy those cheeses sound so delicious! You are making me drool this morning. Now about those glasses. I have a similar issue, sometimes I love my glasses, and other times they make me crazy. ::sigh::

I've noticed that I have trouble reading the text when I have the guide up on the TV and stuff like that too. I'm still pretty much in denial about this though, trying to tell myself that it's the TV fault. ;-)
