We live in a typically suburban area -- between Baltimore and Washington, so when I spot wildlife in our backyard, one can understand why I go balistic. We've had fox, the ubiquitous rabbits, a coyote or two, a huge snapping turtle (Who laid her eggs in my 'turtle garden"!!) and lately have been visited by two barred owls and a stag herd! The photos of the owls are not great, but they were moving fast and it was dusk.
I've noticed that our night time temperatures are beginning to fall and the crickets are soon to outnumber the cicadas. Even so, we still have more butterflies than I EVER seen visiting our garden and since the weather has cooled a bit, a few hummingbirds. Wish you could all enjoy the show!

How fun! I wish I could enjoy the fun also. You have your own little zoo.
Wow! This is so wonderful! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Kathy, you could be talking about my back yard here in CO. I just took some pics of 3 bucks wandering the edge of my property. Yesterday I saw some huge bird of prey land on my deck rail for a couple seconds early in the morning. It was so big I'm wondering if it was an owl though I've never seen one here at altitude. The wing span was enormous.
PS Your Hostas are beautiful.
Wow. It's like you live in the wilderness!
Proof that animals are indeed pretty smart - they come to the most beautiful garden!
Wow. Looks like the bucks stop here!
You've had more stags visit your yard than we've had. We've had multiple does and fawns visit, but never more than one stag. I must admit that I rather like your second photo of the owl in motion.
oh my...heaven..just heavenly
I would love to have all of that in my back yard at one time!
Lucky you....
What a treat to see an owl And WOW the horns on those deer!!!
Glad you're back to blogging!!
What a wonderful wildlife garden! I've never seen owls that close. What sort of deer are they?
And how do you keep the slugs and snails off your hostas???
