Does anyone out there find award shows embarrassing? I used to be so excited to see my favorite actors/celebs, and then they'd be up there, unscripted, bumbling, reminding us they're human (how dare they!) or worse they show up drunk or stoned. Did any of you crumble as I with Sally Field's "You like me! You really like me!"? The short of it is I don't watch award shows anymore, because I can't stand being embarrassed for the participants. Yes, I know Doris Roberts has done a great job on Everybody Loves Raymond especially since awards usually go to the younger actors and actresses, but her bravado makes me want to look away. It's okay when we recognize their greatness, but not so wonderful when they do.
I practice receiving awards so I won't be caught unawares and I'm much more eloquent and succinct than most of them. I also remember my age so I dress tastefully but fashionably, and my hair and makeup are natural and classic looking. Additionally, I stay far away from Joan and Melissa - not because I'm snobby or uncivil -- it's my remarkable humility! They realize this and nod respectfully in my direction. I smile and continue as they marvel. :)
