♫♫Where are you going, my little one...♫♫

I sang this to my babies as I rocked them, never able to get through the whole song.  A quarter of the way through, I would choke up and begin to cry because I knew where they were going -- each milestone, each step, each smile, represented a step away from us.  And that's the way it should be.  But it happens too fast.

Today, our youngest child turns 35.  Amazing that I haven't yet lost that baby weight...but that's another issue.  This morning I awoke reflecting on how we celebrate the announcement "We're having a baby!" and not "We're having a toddler" or scarier still, " a teenager"!  I think that  somewhere in the recesses of our hearts, we hope to hold onto that baby, that cherub, for just a while longer and be able to rock them, protect them, and hold them close.

Lovely photo. When I think that our grandsons--now in first and sixth grades--will all too soon turn into teen-agers and then adults, it makes me a little wistful. Adoption of a dear little grand-daughter will become final before Easter, so we still have someone to rock and cuddle--but even she--at 9 months-- is already asserting herself and getting ready to take on the world.

Happy birthday to your baby. Yes, they remain our little ones forever. I don't know where the time goes. We are too busy getting those kids launched to realize how fast it all became a part of memory. Enjoy that wonderful adult that you produced and sent out into the world.

Beautiful children, Kathy. I'm stopping by from Bilbo's post this morning, so my first visit. We are going to see Fiddler on the Roof tonight and your post reminds me of Sunrise,Sunset.

Gosh! I remember singing that song too. I'm feeling a little melancholy now thinking of it. I see my grandchild also growing up and it's too quick, too soon. Your children certainly grew up beautifully, Kathy!

Everyone says that the time flies, but still so hard to get my head around that.

Beautiful photograph. Happy Birthday to a lucky 35 year old!

They are truly beautiful, Kathy. I'm so proud for you. I sure do miss seeing mine. They grow too quickly.
