Not sure why this was important to me this is year, but it is. Maybe I just needed a break from what has always been my most favorite holiday of the year.
The kids are all busy: The youngest has to work; horses don't take care of themselves, the eldest and daughter-in-law have an infant, and the middle child wanted to get together with friends. And this is good.
Tomorrow, Richard and I will ride up to PA to see my mom and have a Thanksgiving brunch with her, and then return to an evening of football, my crab dip, and a chopped salad. And above all our profound thanks for all that we have.

Happy Thanksgiving, Kathy. I truly hope you have a wonderful day. I understand your sentiment. I haven't cooked a Thanksgiving meal for year. I haven't even made pie. This year I'm going to do the meal and the pies a day early. Yikes, that's today. Wish me luck.
I actually enjoy cooking the Thanksgiving dinner, as long as the guest list is 10 or less. More than that and it's no fun for me.
I did cook an early turkey dinner, pie and all, on Veteran's Day, just for our immediate family. My daughter asked for it sine her kids will be with their dad for this real Thanksgiving.
I always wonder if I would miss it if I did what you are doing. I don't know. We will be driving south 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic, to my sister's house. She still loves having a big crowd.
Have a wonderful day of thankfulness.
Happy Thanksgiving. The years of Doing-It-All are behind me, and I am thankful for that. Our family holiday dinners are now potlucks. We're going to our daughter's house in Northern Virginia. It's their first year in their new townhouse and I am wondering if I will be able to plug in two crockpots. Their new kitchen is a bit larger than a handkerchief.
